<p>The other day, Techcrunch claimed that the music site Last.fm (which I&#8217;m a heavy user of) was <a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/02/20/did-lastfm-just-hand-over-user-listening-data-to-the-riaa/">beginning to hand over listening data to the RIAA</a>. Last.fm works by &#8220;scrobbling&#8221; every track you play to a log, which is then used to find music you like, people with similar music tastes, and so on. It&#8217;s a great site.</p>
<p>Last.fm&#8217;s response is short, sharp, and to the point. The Next Web has <a href="http://thenextweb.com/2009/02/23/lastfm-officially-respond-techcrunch-calls-full-shit/">an overview of the statements in both directions</a>.<br />
